This book is a pretty good beginning book for kids. What is disappointing is the illustrations. Everyone agrees that girls need to be attracted to STEM fields of study - yet the illustrations of this book do not promote that at all. The illustrators: Janet Moneymaker and Dr. Rebecca Keller, should be embarrassed. Even when a book is written and illustrated by women, it depicts boys three times as often as girls and depicts the child scientist on the final page as ... a boy.Product details

Physics PreLevel 1 Real Science4Kids Rebecca W Keller Janet Moneymaker 9780982316368 Books Reviews
Real science 4 Kids physics Pre level 1 is a great basic physics book for young children. It is true science done in an easy to understand format so that children can learn the basics. Each level (pre level 1, level 1, etc.) gets a little deeper into the subject so that by the time kids are in high school they are better prepared for the harder stuff because they know all the basics. If you do a section a day (i.e. 1.1, 1.2, and so on) you can cover a chapter a week and the book will take about 10 weeks. We needed about 3 of these books to cover a school year at that pace, but I feel it was worth the money. My kids really enjoyed this curriculum!
I just recently finished this Physics series with my 6 and 7 year old children, bought along with the student workbook and teacher's book. This author writes a science curriculum that not only covers the basics of what a child should be learning in science but does it while covering very advanced Idea's in a way that is very, very fun and easy for children to understand, and that they will remember. My kids always beg for the next chapter and experiment from the lab workbook.
I liked using "Eureka!" cartoon science shorts, viewable from You Tube, with some of the chapters. They were really great and added lots to it for us.
Only complaint was that 2 of the experiments called for some items that were hard to find. But all the other expiriments called for things you probably have already around the house, so that was actually really nice in contrast.
We have absolutely loved Real Science for Kids Physics, and have also bought the Chemistry and Biology sets of this series. I plan on buying the Astronomy level one set also. We are loving the Chemistry which, in my opinion is the best of the series, and look forward to the Biology, and Astronomy, which also look amazing.
